Mobile phone penetration continues to surge across the continent, as does smartphone adoption. As a result, a number of African mobile apps are being developed for practical purposes – ranging from eye testing to payments to recruitment.
However, although smartphones are becoming more common, relatively few people in Africa have them. Even in Johannesburg, South Africa, smartphone penetration is estimated to be only 25% overall, and less than 18% in the medium-skilled jobseeker segment. It is for this reason that Giraffe’s mobile recruitment app works on any cellphone that can access the internet- not just smartphones.
Giraffe’s app currently focuses on recruitment in Gauteng but will cater for the rest of South Africa in the coming months.
