Ever since launching in South Africa two years ago, Uber- the app that enables passengers to summon a car and driver with their smartphone- has taken the country by storm. People who previously never would have thought of using a taxi now use Uber to get around on a regular basis- thanks to the service’s reputation for safety, reliability and low cost.
Importantly, Uber’s growth has created work opportunities for over 2,000 drivers in South Africa. Uber’s impact on job creation fully aligns with Giraffe’s aspiration to help reduce unemployment in South Africa. As such, the two companies are entering into a partnership whereby Giraffe will help Uber partners recruit drivers in Johannesburg.
Uber partners wishing to recruit drivers will be able to submit a request at www.giraffe.co.za/uber. Giraffe’s automated recruitment engine will then identify suitable drivers, contact them and schedule interviews with Uber partners within 48 hours of the request. This service will be available free of charge to Uber partners.
“Through our partnership with Giraffe, we are very excited to be offering a platform for partners seeking drivers. Job creation and partner benefits are at the core of what we do and our partnership with Giraffe is another great way to facilitate this,” said Alon Lits, Uber GM for Sub-Saharan Africa.
“We are delighted to support Uber as they continue growing in South Africa and create much-needed jobs,” stated Shafin Anwarsha, Giraffe’s Head of Product, adding, “Uber is a great example of how mobile technology can solve real-world problems- much like Giraffe is aiming to do.”
Giraffe, the revolutionary new digital recruitment agency service, uses mobile to connect jobseekers with opportunities and helps employers recruit the best staff quickly and easily. Since launching their free recruitment service in Johannesburg in January 2015, Giraffe has over 30k jobseekers registered and has sent job opportunities to over 3,000 candidates.
